Default new to the whole netbook thing

hey, im new here and am looking to getting a netbook with the intention of running win xp/7 then possibly osx if I get board and need something to fanny around with. I also have the intention of modding it with whatever ram upgrades or whatever. That’s the easy bit:-/ im a student so everything’s going to have to be cheap as possible (eBay being my best friend). I have a 2 questions for now,
1. What’s good and cheap?? I was looking at msi winds and aspire ones good idea/ bad idea
2. If I get one with Ubuntu Or some other netbook Linux flavour installed how easy is it to remove and install a new os (I have a USB dd would that be recognised and a viable boot source with no os?)

First off, welcome!

You'll definitely want to upgrade the RAM to whatever its max is. RAM is so cheap nowadays it would be silly not to add more of it.

As for your questions, I'm afraid I can't give you much input. I own an eeePC, and love it. It's relatively cheap, but many netbook manufacturers are cranking them out for pretty low $$$. But do compare them in the stores first, and read others' reviews here and on other sites. I have no clue about Ubuntu, as I've never used that.

Well, as far as the USB drive, I'm not sure that whether the drive will work. I know all CD/DVD roms are USB, so there is a chance. I'd hope one of the more experienced guys will log on to help. I know I'm about to upgrade to 7.

As far as which to buy, they are almost all the same in capabilities excpet for the farrari.

Post RE:

If you are asking me, I would suggest you MSI Wind netbook because I really impressed its facility and functions. In it, you can use internet without ant LAN connection because Wi-Fi Network option is available on it.
I am not sure about USB installation, but you can boot OS with CD/DVD Rom.
